As of March 31, 2021, the Defense Information System for Security (DISS) is the System of Record for personnel security management, suitability, fitness, and credentialing. DISS is managed by the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA).

DISS is an innovative, web-based application that provides secure communication between adjudicators, security professionals, and components, thus allowing Users to request, record, document, and identify personnel security actions. DISS will be an integral component of the National Background Investigation Service (NBIS) platform currently in development. It is a key component of the DoD’s strategy to modernize personnel vetting and improve mission readiness.
