Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, referred to as HSPD-12, is a Federal policy which establishes a mandatory, government-wide standard for secure and reliable forms of federal identification issued to government employees and contractors. This policy is intended to enhance security, increase government efficiency, reduce identity fraud, and protect personal privacy.
HSPD-12 adjudications are used to confirm identities and ensure that individuals are not suspected or known terrorists and do not pose a risk to life, safety, or health of other employees, contractors, or workplace visitors.
Later in this module, you will learn how Suitability and HSPD-12 apply to your role as a Component Adjudicator. But first, we need to define some helpful terms for you.
